I
I sit alone,
In a café in Poznań,
Alone I sit,
with my thoughts alone.
I will be called young, inexperienced.
And in this inexperience I yet know,
That the case of my state is a dire one.
And now you read this,
And you think, I know you will,
But then why don’t you act?
For so many wait for someone too.
And the government is in ruins,
The opposition is in ruins,
Our cities are in ruins,
And the life lived is in ruins.
And we pay with all we have,
And we are given nothing for it,
The time for change is long gone,
But let’s act tonight to begin with.
And when im asked why did you leave?
All I can think of is why do you stay?
This country is our country,
And when you look at it, what do you see?
Are you proud of what has become?
Are you satisfied with this life you live?
If you are rich and happy then look around you,
Look at what has become of the rest.
And if you are rich you should care,
Open your eyes and plead for a change,
The tools lie around you.
And in anxiety so many wait.
But since satisfied you are,
you much rather sleep,
And curse the government,
public and taxes.
I would beg for you,
To cause a stir,
To bring development,
Knowledge and thought.
Without the mind being in motion,
The life lived, whichever one, is a waste,
Thoughts will breed actions,
And consciously we must strive together.
I would give all I have,
Time, money, my mind, my life.
For India to start a transformation,
But there needs to be light.
And we must illuminate this dark tunnel,
And bring this light to our people,
And awake each day with a foremost pledge,
One which urges each one to strive for a real state.
II
But I am young,
And hence I must be inexperienced,
And my type want the same,
And each person who has struggled,
Wants the same.
And I have spoken to thousands of them.
But we are young,
And we must be inexperienced.
For its only our hearts, minds, eyes & soul that speak.
But we are young,
And inexperience must breed such emotion.
However if these words,
Yes these words,
Can cause a stir, and awaken a few,
For a cause to stir, then I will be on call.
And each one of those whom I know will be too,
And we will gather,
To fight for a better India.
And now I’ll leave,
To gain more experience,
To either understand the chaos which presides,
Or to hear word that a change is now brewing,
Or from you, to beckon a change together.
For the world is small,
And a change can come,
For what is truly wanted,
Can in unison always be delivered.
Hello, Gautam!
ReplyDeleteNice to know all is well with you in Poland even as India crumbles ....
To quote you:
"...But then why don’t you act?
For so many wait for someone too.
in your opinion -
"And the government is in ruins,
The opposition is in ruins,
Our cities are in ruins,
And the life lived is in ruins."
Maybe I do not understand, so forgive me if I ask - What are you doing about it?
I wonder - what are you doing in Poznan or Krakow or Warsaw instead of being in India striving to help your country save itself from ruin? Only rats desert sinking ships, Gautam; no self respecting sailor ever does. Check out the history of INS Khukri, circa 1971 - a sterling example of honour in extreme crisis.
Maybe if you walk the banks of the upper Indus instead of some Polish river, you may get the strength to face an honest answer.
I wish you well but let's not over do it.
Unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteYou reply in such haste, but i understand your words. One of my mentors told me you only realise a crises when you leave it and how true that is?
I left not so long ago, only 6 months to this day and the days before i spent within the boundaries of our country.
No ship is deserted my friend, i will return, i need to summon a force, a gathering of men, willing with honor and bravery to stand for a better India, and i ask you now will you stand? Will you sacrifice for a better india? I will surely return as the poem explains, to save our land, but i need to hear a voice like mine that wishes for a better India, do you wish for a better India? If you and the others dont then sometimes i wonder who do i speak against? I neeed the majority, voices, thoughts and feelings?
We have so much potential, i was born in an army family and lived life through that, i see what you speak and feel it too but i truly believe we really need change, if you gather a force i shall return to steer it forward. Dont you believe this? I feel you agree with me but feel i should not have left, if you agree dont you also believe in a change that must be forthcoming? Peace my friend, i hope you reply... Gautam
When do you return to India Gautam? And how far is your force gathered already?
ReplyDeleteI love your poem, the words are strong and your soul spkeaks through it but when are you going to actually act?
I am in India currently for a short time. I would really like to speak to you about my thoughts if you wish regardless if your Indian or not. I felt this time back in India has given me another perspective which makes my thoughts on the country slightly interesting at the moment. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteYou are in India now? That´s really interesting. Yes, I would like to learn more about your thoughts. Which new perspective did you get? How is the feeling coming back to India?
